Keeping “the books” was little blue invoice pads, a few spread sheets and writing cake labels by hand into the wee hours. This was followed by a big learning curve as bookkeeper for a law firm, followed by a long and satisfying period as accounting supervisor in the PR and advertising business. Five years with one of the first shelters for women and children led her finally to Nancy Bond Insurance Services. She started her insurance career in 1978 at St. Paul Insurance, then in 2003, moved to the agency side as a Commercial Account Manager. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Florida, living in that state most of her life until being swept up by the beauty of Colorado. Karen is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and she enjoys building lasting relationships with her clients and learning about their business. She is very responsive to customer needs, whether it be writing a new piece of business, taking care of a billing issue or looking for ways to protect her customer in any insurance risk situation they may have. She understands the importance of quick and reliable response to any inquiry. Karen lives in Fort Collins with her husband Mark, has a 2 grown daughters in Colorado, 3 Grandchildren and a son in Florida. Her absolute love for people and their businesses drives her to sell and service their insurance needs as if they were her own. She is a nationally known motivational speaker and frequently teaches classes on such topics as Risk Management, Protecting your Ministry; Human Resources for the small business owner; Sexual Abuse Prevention for the youth serving organization; and her favorite topic, The Power of Gratitude! She has volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association (ELEA) and is also their Employee Benefits Administrator; served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce for 10 years, last as President; has been the President of her local Business Network International (BNI). Her hobbies include just about anything health and fitness related. Very early on most mornings you can find her on her road bicycle or on a hike in the local mountains!
